But you’ll need more than just a summary to decorate like a PRO!

From rustic farmhouse style to sleek modern design, your sure to find what you looking for below.

Check out our step-by-step guide to help you find all the items and information you need to plan out your fall décor adventure like a pro.

Step 1: Start with a Budget

If you’re planning to redecorate, it’s important to set a budget first. You’ll need to consider how much money you have available to spend and what kind of style you’d like to go for.

See our Decorate on a Budget page.

Step 2: Choose a Theme

Start by choosing a theme. This will help you decide what colors and patterns you want to use. Fall décor is generally characterized by warm, earthy colors such as red, orange and yellows. These colors remind us of the seasonal changing tree foliage and the comfort of backing up to a warm wood fire on a cold night. Once you’ve chosen a color scheme, think about where you want to place each piece of furniture. Consider the size of the room and whether you want to keep things simple or add more details. Defining your theme will help keep things from feeling cluttered or disconnected, it provides a cohesive and welcoming experience to all those who are lucky enough to enter your home.

Step 3: Find Inspiration

Ideas for inspiration are different for everyone, luckily they are also all around you. You can find inspiration online at sites like PinterestHouzzHGTV, and other many other websites. These sites offer thousands of ideas for home décor, so take advantage of them!

Also don’t forget to pay attention when visiting friends and families homes; like we said everyone is sprucing up their fall décor right now and your likely to find great new ideas with those you already know. Another great place to find new ideas is in local businesses that you visit, most of them hire professional decorators to decorate their spaces for maximum curb appeal, so why not take what they have done and put your own personal touches on them!

Step 4: Create a Mood Board

Start by creating a mood board. This will help you visualize what you want your room to look like before you begin shopping. Once you’ve decided on a color scheme, add photos of items you’d like to use as accents.

We like to use a simple pin board and thumbtacks; it creates a super effective and simple tool and the textures of the board with the right pictures on it can actually be left hanging on the wall as it’s very own piece of your personalized fall home décor!

Step 5: Go Shopping!

When decorating for fall you’ll need to buy a few things to make your home feel cozy during the colder months. Here’s how to choose them wisely.

Remember, you want to create that warm and cozy environment, but it also needs to be cohesive; reference your theme and mood board to choose your items while executing your vision. We like to limit each room to around 3-4 colors and simply vary their hues to keep things from feeling out-of-sorts.

Your dominant color should do just that, it should dominate, meaning it should fill most of the room. Let your secondary color, along with all of its various hues, represent around 25-30% of the room and finish things off with the pièce-de-résistance, the o-so-fun accent color, which should only cover approximately 8-10% of the space.
